SAFETY POSTERS AND DISPLAYS
- Safety posters are meant to communicate
the safety message in a very brief span of time to people who are going
about their normal work activities. They are one of the most visible evidence
of accident prevention work although is should not be assumed that posters
would alone do the job safely. The purpose of exhibiting safety posters
on shop floor is:
- a) To remind the employee
of common human traits that cause accidents
b) To impress people with the good sense of working safely
c) To suggest behaviour patterns that help prevent accidents
d) To inspire a friendly interest in the company's safety efforts
e) To remind employees of specific hazards
-
- Safety posters are useful also in supporting
special campaigns like using guards, wearing personal protective equipment,
maintaining good housekeeping, off the job safety etc. They thus permit
safety on and off the job.
-
- The management should ensure that appropriate
posters are exhibited on the shop floor. For example, exhibiting a poster
illustrating the use of safety goggles while grinding near a pedestal grinder
or a poster depicting a use of respiratory protection in a dusty area like
the mill plant etc.
-
- Safety posters could be procured from National
Safety Council, Sion, Loss Prevention Association and other organisations.
Management could display the safety posters prepared by employees during
a safety posters competition. This would give the employees a sense of
involvement in safety rather than having a list of do' s and don'ts to
follow.
