PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
- The personal protective equipment that would
be required to be supplied to the workers could be determined after studying
the various plant processes in areas where hot material is handled. It
would be required to provide heat resistant handgloves and aprons. Canvas
gloves with leather palms could be used for general purposes. It should
be noted that in areas where fast rotating machinery is operated like the
pedestal grinder, use of hand glove is not recommended.
-
- In areas where heavy material is handled
and which, in the event of being dropped could injure the foot, in such
places it would be better to provide leather shoes with steel toe caps
or else in other areas gumboots will suffice.
-
- It should be ensured that the leather shoes
which are supplied do not have iron nails, as these could provide a source
of ignition in the form a of a spark which could ignite any leaked flammable
material.
- Wherever flying splinters or particles are
envisaged, supply safety goggles to its employees. In areas where the flame
needs to be checked appropriate safety goggles which could cut off IR/UV
rays would have to be supplied to the employees.
-
- In areas where there could be a source of
noise the worker would have to be provided suitable ear plugs, ear muffs.
-
- Depending upon the composition and size
of dust generated provide proper dust removing equipment and dust masks
to its employees.
- For working at heights the worker would
have to be provided with safety belts and harnesses. They would have to
be trained to inspect the belt, the harness and all its attachments everytime
before its use.
-
- Accidents are known to have been occurred
to workers using safety belts, by keeping the length of the harness rope
more than the height of fall.
